View the Night Sky through the

Historic 60-inch Telescope

Saturday, August 23, 2014 is Now Open!

as the last 60-inch Ticketed Night for 2014

Mount Wilson's historic 60-inch Telescope is normally made available for public viewing through our very popular group rental program. In order to make this remarkable experience more accessible to inviduals not associated with a group, we have thus far set aside five evenings this summer as individually ticketed nights. Those nights sold out quickly. Due to their popularity, we are now opening up the evening of Saturday, August 23, 2014 as an individually ticketed night, the last ticketed night on the 60 inch for 2014. This night is two days before new moon and is thus what astronomers call "dark time." It will be an ideal night for observing a variety of astronomical objects like planetary nebulae, double stars, star clusters, galaxies, and other fascinating deep-sky targets.

We will be issuing 20 tickets on a first-come, first-served basis for the evening. The price of each ticket is $100 and includes a tour of the Observatory, a boxed meal prepared by our Cosmic Cafe, and, of course, observing at the 60-inch telescope.

All attendees must be ticketed, and no discounts are given.

The event will start at 5:30 pm PDT and end at 1:00 am. There is a limit of two tickets per individiual or family, and we cannot accommodate children under age twelve. All ticketed minor children must be accompanied by a ticketed responsible adult.

The Observatory is located at an elevation of 5700 feet with the tour requiring walking up and down many stairs and steep pathways and is not easily accessible to persons with physical disabilities. Those with known cardiac and respiratory conditions may also want to consider this before requesting a ticket.

Ticket holders are responsible for their own transportation to and from Mount Wilson. A map and driving directions can be found here.

Box meal includes sandwich (choice of turkey or veggie with condiments on the side), side salad, chips, dessert cookie, and drink. You will make your sandwich selection (turkey or veggie) when you purchase your ticket.

When you purchase a ticket, you acknowledge that you have read and accept our terms and conditions, particularly noting that all tickets sales are final and non-refundable except in the case of technical issues preventing us from operating the telescope that evening.
